Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Traditional music is an integral part of cultural festivals, serving as a medium for storytelling, entertainment, and communal bonding. In Sokoto North Local Government Area, traditional music forms such as Hausa folk songs and drumming are essential components of festivals, attracting both local and international audiences. The rhythms and melodies not only preserve cultural heritage but also create a lively and engaging atmosphere, encouraging participation and attendance. As festivals become key drivers of cultural tourism, the role of traditional music in enhancing their appeal and attendance has gained increasing attention (Ibrahim & Bello, 2023). However, despite its significance, there is limited empirical research on how traditional music influences festival attendance in Sokoto North.
